Reaching farming communities in rural Guangdong, along the rivers of the Pearl River Delta.
Guangdong continues to face a serious drowning crisis among its younger population. The province's Pearl River Delta system and abundant rural waterways mean that children, particularly in agricultural communities away from urban centers, are in constant proximity to open water.
Life Afloat has reached children in Liuzu Town, Xinxing County, Yunfu City, a place of deep historical significance as the birthplace of Huineng, the sixth patriarch of Chan Buddhism. Next to the ancient Guoen Temple at the foot of Longshan Mountain, we have taught 48 local children from farming families across 3 groups, ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 4, in a community where formal water safety education had never previously been offered.
