Water Safety education at Yokohama International School

Yokohama is Japan's second-largest city and one of its most prominent port cities, sitting at the edge of Tokyo Bay with a dense network of rivers and coastal waterways winding through its urban landscape. It is also where Life Afloat was founded.

At Yokohama International School, Life Afloat taught approximately 80 elementary school students, many of whom had never had formal swimming lessons. Water safety education is not currently part of the school's PE curriculum, and Life Afloat was glad to be able to step in and offer it.

For Life Afloat, Yokohama is both a home base and a starting point — the city where the organization began, and where it continues to grow.
